I was pleased to see a big crowd at the Dripping Pan for our last home game of the season against Farnborough, and it was good to say goodbye to the fans with a win. 600 turned up for a game in which neither team needed the points, and they were rewarded with a victory on a sunny day. The goal came late, and it was a typical poacher’s effort from Craig O’Connor. It’s his fifth in nine starts for the club: he swivelled well to pounce on a loose ball and put it into the top stanchion. He was only on for 15 minutes, but he’s a hard worker, and he got his reward. It means we’ll go into next season with only one home defeat in 2007 and, if things go well at Bishop’s Stortford in the last game of the season on Saturday, an unbeaten league record that stretches over fourteen matches.

It’s a good base to build on for next season, which is important, because I want to hit the ground running. Ten of my players have already signed new contracts, and I’m looking to strengthen the squad with four or five other signings. We weren’t good enough to win the league this year, so we need an even better squad if we want to do so next time round.

The game began with a couple of awards. The first was a lifetime membership to Terry Parris. He was the man that gave me the job, I’ve got a lot to thank him for, and I hope see him back as Chairman in the near distant future. Another was for Paul Kennett who played his 200th game. He’s been a great servant to the club and long may his career at Lewes continue. The third was a Manager of the Month Award I received for Lewes’ performances in March. It was a proud moment for me after a long season. People don’t realise how much work goes into managing this club.
