Pells Pool clean-up
The Pells Pool will open on May 19th this year, a week earlier than normal. Before then there is a good deal of work to be done, and as normal the community group which runs the pool have requested help from volunteers. “I’ll have a whole list of things that need to be done,” says Phil Ransley, pool manager, “and I’ll allocate them to people who turn up. Stuff like weeding, mowing the lawn, picking up branches that have fallen over the winter, painting walls, picking up the rubbish in the pool and cleaning out freezers and fridges.”
The pool is left dormant and unattended over the winter: there have been a few incidents of theft (someone nicked the steps into the pool) and criminal damage (to the shower unit) which necessitate professional help. “The water goes in on Sunday, Monday or Tuesday,” says Phil. “It’s piped from a natural spring ten metres below the pool and comes in at 52 degrees, which is fairly chilly. But the sunny weather should warm it up quite a bit before we open. In fact it’s been so warm this year, we could have opened at Easter.” If you would like to help - even just for half an hour - turn up between noon and 4pm on Saturday or Sunday, and Phil will give you a job.
