Saturday Night Gigs at a Glance

OK, you’ve decided to stay in Lewes for the Bank Holiday Weekend, want some live music, but haven’t got a ticket for Led ZepToo at the All Saints. So where can you go? Well if you’re a fan of 60’s, 70’s and 80’s music, you’ve got a number of choices:

First up are Hove based forty-somethings Average Waist Band who will be serving up their mix of Classic Rock, Blues, Rock & Roll and even the occasional bit of Latin, from around 8.30pm at the John Harvey Tavern. We’ve had a quick look at their setlist, and suggest you prepare yourself for a bit of Bowie, a smattering of Cream and Credence Clearwater Revival and a large slice of Rolling Stones.

If that doesn’t quite grab you, or you simply prefer life at the top of the High St, then at approximately the same time New Reform will offering their selection of 60’s, 70’s and 80’s classics in the Pelham Arms.

For some people however, just listening is simply not enough. If you fit this category, then we suggest you head down Cockshut Road (off Southover High Street) to Southdown Sports Club where Southover Bonfire Society are holding a fundraising Karaoke evening. In keeping with the emerging 70’s 80’s theme, we are promised that the ‘highlight’ of the evening will be the “Battle of the Bowies”. So if you want to dust down your vocal chords, head on down Dressing up is apparently optional. NW
