This week’s Reeves picture was taken in 1900 and features the Duke of Connaught’s visit to town. Victoria and Albert’s son was also the Earl of Sussex and had recently renounced his rights to the Duchy of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha in Germany. We like the way the urchins have taken up their place directly behind the coach, and the manner in which the gent in the foreground is tipping his hat in respect. Also the back-to-front ‘God Save The Queen’ banner next to the cheeky Saltire, amid all the Union Jacks. Reeves have an extensive archive of photos in their collection, which you can browse through at 159 High Street where the business has been running for four generations since 1858. If you know anything more about any of the photos we publish, don’t hesitate to contact us.
