Climate Change - Open Space Technology meeting

What will Lewes be eating after cheap oil and how will we provide it?This is the 'focal issue' or theme to be discussed at the first ever Transition Town Lewes Open Space Technology meeting, which will be held this Saturday at the Market Lane Garage in North Street.

But before discussing the issue of feeding Lewes in a post-oil society, just what exactly is an Open Space Technology meeting?  According to Zoe Nicholson, who with her sister Una will be facilitating TTL's Open Space events, it's a conference without speakers, where participants get together in the first session of the day and 'open the space' by creating their own unique programme of sessions related to the central theme.  This way diverse groups of people can get together to discuss issues of heartfelt concern, share ideas, knowledge and resources and develop plans for future collaborative action and mutually-desired change.

At the end of these self-managed sessions, which will be transcribed for all to share, the meeting is then closed by the facilitator.  This way, even if you are unable to stay the whole day, you could come for the opening and closing sessions and still take away with you a sense of what was achieved and where things are going. There will be local, seasonal food and drinks available on Saturday and child care (which needs to be booked, £12). AM
