Recommend somewhere to eat out. For a meal with friends, I’d go to Lazatti’s. For a takeaway or a snack in the shop, it’s got to be Chaula's.
What sort of businesses do you think Lewes needs to attract? More independent shops are always welcome. I’d also like to see a bookshop selling new books.
Would a redeveloped Phoenix area be good for the town? I’m against the plans shown so far because I believe it will take trade away from the existing shopping areas. The council doesn’t seem to appreciate what they already have.
What do you think about pedestrianising the centre of Lewes? I’m not in favour. In our part of the High St we’d lose all the people off the buses and the passing trade which makes up a fair percentage of our business.
Could you do anything to make your business greener? In Lewes we could, yes. In Brighton we pay to have all our paper and card collected and believe that the council plan to bring in a similar scheme here. If they do, we’ll sign up.
Any expansion plans? We are always on the lookout for new opportunities.
Is there anything you always get asked? “I’d like a nice pen”. We need a little bit more information than that to assist - but we don’t mind the question, because we love showing people the range.
Give a top tip to our readers: If you want to get a pen engraved, remember to leave enough time - it usually takes around three weeks. NW
