How would you spend a perfect Sunday afternoon? Going for a long walk with my family, having a long lunch. Then falling asleep in the sunshine in my garden.
What did you have for breakfast? It was brunch in a break from work. A bacon sandwich with ketchup. A cup of decaf tea, with milk, no sugar. And a pomegranate juice.
Recommend a film to a friend. Cinema Paradiso is beautiful and always makes me cry. Napoleaon Dynamite is funny in a bizarre sort of way. And I recently watched Little Miss Sunshine, which is brilliant. I like films about dysfunctional families.
And a restaurant? Lazatti’s is good. I like the Jolly Sportsman. And I love going to Circa. It’s like fridge magnet food - they just throw incongruous-seeming things together and they come out perfect. The garden is lovely, too. I once had an interesting experience there with a Buddhist monk.
Where did you buy the clothes you’re wearing? I got my ‘With the Grain’ t-shirt from the exhibition in the Town Hall, my cords from a Gap Outlet store outside Swindon, and my Birkenstocks from a stall in Assisi.
What do you think of the Phoenix development? Perhaps a better question would be ‘what do I think of the fact they’ve filled up every hole in the centre of town with new houses’. I’m not against new planning, but I think there should be a master plan rather than a lot of piecemeal developments.
What does Lewes really need? We’ve never got over the loss of the cinema. I saw the Wizard of Oz there, when I was two, and spent the whole time hiding under the seat crying because I was afraid of the wicked witch. We also need a new-book bookshop.
