Gigs at a Glance
Friday - First up, at the John Harvey Tavern from 8.30pm, are acoustic duo Annelies & Ben, who will be performing a selection of well-known pop covers from the 60’s to the 00’s. With bands covered ranging from The Beatles to the Scissor Sisters, there should be something for just about everyone. Meanwhile ladies and gentlemen, up at the Pelham Arms, let me introduce to you covers act, Billy Shears, who will be playing a range of sixties hits from 9pm.
Saturday - If you’re down in Cliffe for the Independence day celebrations, you can pop in to the John Harvey on Saturday as well, where Paul and Andy will be blasting out more covers for the crowds. However, if you’re in the Cliffe area, we recommend that you head down to the Snowdrop, where one of Britain’s finest blues bands, The Elevators, will be setting the place alight with their no-nonsense up tempo style. It is their first tour since the tragic death of founder member and vocalist John Whippey, and highly accomplished blues guitarist and new member Fran Galpin will now be on vocals.
Fans of the blues will be spoilt for choice however, because over at the Lansdown in Station St, John Crampton will be taking to the stage to play a couple of hours of his incredible “foot stompin’ blues”. John is a one-man band, playing acoustic, slide and steel guitar, as well as harmonica and foot box, to accompany his fantastic gravely blues voice. One not to be missed… NW
