Names: Paul Bone and Sue Turner.
Business name: Bone Clothing.
What does your business do? We sell men’s and women’s branded clothing from our two shops on School Hill in Lewes.
How long have you been running the business? I opened the men’s shop seven years ago, and Sue came in to run the ladies wear shop when it opened eighteen months ago. We’ve both been connected to the fashion industry for around 25 years.
What was on the premises before? The men’s shop had been a bath and beauty shop, whilst the ladies shop used to be a branch of the TSB bank.
Where do you get your stock from? Our suppliers are based in London, but many of the brands are French and Italian.
What’s the most expensive item you sell? A men’s suit for £500 and a cashmere ladies coat for £375.
And the cheapest? A £3 pair of socks.
And the most unusual? We sell a ‘Lucky Kit’ - which contains the essential equipment you’ll need if you unexpectedly get lucky on a night out…
Is their anything that irritates you about the business? Paul - I love the industry, but could do without the paperwork involved with running a small business. It also annoys me that if someone steals something from the shop, they’ll probably get fined less than a customer who accidentally goes over the meter time whilst looking around.
What is your favourite shop in Lewes? Paul? Bright Ideas. Sue? It must be Avant Garde and The Stillroom, as I seem to spend most of my money there.
Recommend somewhere to eat out? By reputation we’d say Circa. Our most recent good meal out was in Prezzo.
