What sort of businesses do you think Lewes needs to attract? We’ve got a good selection of Independents, and more are always welcome. Also more stuff for kids - particularly now the toy shop is going.
Would a redeveloped Phoenix area be good for the town? Paul - I don’t think the town is big enough to warrant a development on the scale suggested. Sue - I suppose if it made Lewes more of a destination town, it could be positive, however I fear it may just lead to the destruction of the existing shopping areas.
What do you think about pedestrianising the centre of Lewes? It wouldn’t work for us - we often get people in who’ve seen us after being stuck in a jam on the hill. It could work in the Cliffe - but only if they properly sort out the parking.
Could you do anything to make your business greener? We’d like to, and if the council do bring in recycling collections we’ll get involved. Much of our waste is generated by suppliers over-packaging goods, and we’d be very happy if they used less.
Any expansion plans? We are always on the lookout for new opportunities, and we recently launched our own jeanswear label.
Is there anything you always get asked? Firstly “Do you open on Saturday?” Answered with “It’s the busiest day of the week so we close”. (The real answer is we’re open Monday to Saturday from 9.30am - 5.30pm), and secondly, “How long have you been here?” - answered with “Since 9.30am”
Give a top tip to our readers: Shopping wise, put enough money in the meter to enjoy a long shopping experience. Life wise, don’t answer the phone when you’re ironing… NW

Something for the weekend, madam?
