What sort of businesses do you think Lewes needs to attract? Lewes is well known for its great selection of Independent shops - so more of them please.
Would a redeveloped Phoenix area be good for the town?
I’m generally in favour of the idea of redeveloping the area. At the moment the Industrial Estate is fairly run down and not providing masses of work. However the development needs to be sympathetic to the town, and not just an excuse to place a load of multiples in the town.
What do you think about pedestrianising the centre of Lewes? I think it’s long overdue in the Cliffe, but I can’t see it being practical anywhere else, because there has to be a way to get traffic into and through the town. The real issue to sort out is the parking - do we really need more wardens than police in the town?
Could you do anything to make your business greener? We’re switching to cotton bags (a move organized by Gossypium). We already recycle all our paper and cardboard, and would encourage the Council to introduce a scheme for traders asap.
Any expansion plans? Not at the moment. However, at some stage we would like to be able to display more books for adults - at the moment we just order them in when requested.
Is there anything you always get asked? “Is there anywhere good to eat around here?” Well as within a couple of hundred yards there’s The Snowdrop, The Dorset, The Real Eating Co and Bills, it’s easy to say yes.
Give a top tip to our readers: Buy a good roadmap - and particularly one that covers Lewes. We are constantly giving directions to people who are lost in the town! NW
