What’s your favourite local landmark? The Downs are fantastic, and make East Sussex a great place to live. I love Cuckmere Haven in particular. You can have a barbecue on the beach and then go camping. Though I’ve got a new-born baby so I won’t be doing much of that for a while.
How would you spend a perfect Sunday afternoon? I play in a heavy rock band called Burnthouse. We rehearse every Sunday in a converted toilet: there are a few lingering smells, but it’s an inspiring setting. I love it.
What did you have for breakfast? A cup of tea. Milk no sugar. Then, much later, at about 10.30, a sausage roll from Waitrose.
Recommend a film to a friend. The Prestige. Christopher Nolan is becoming one of the great British directors. It’s about two rival magicians, and the lengths people are prepared to go for their art.
Who’s your favourite poet? Billy Childish. He’s the ultimate amateur, and is hugely prolific.
Tell us a good place to eat in Seaford. Gino’s. An independent, authentic, cheap Italian place, run by Gino himself. It’s got a bit of character. When it’s your birthday, he starts singing opera.
Would you like to live in Lewes? I always think that we might end up here. If we can afford it, that is. Lewes has always dragged me back: when I finish this job, I hope I can get another one in town. Seaford’s much quieter than Lewes, but if I ever left it, I must admit I would miss the sea.
What do you think should be done with the North Street area? I worry that they are planning a big retail centre there, because that would damage the independent shops in town. But I think Lewes does need more affordable housing, and that would be an ideal place to build some.
