This week’s Reeves’ photo was taken in 1967, and shows why the Bottleneck is so called. Back in the days before traffic lights were placed there, and well before the by-pass was built, a car transporter has got jammed up against a petrol lorry. Notice how the Casbah was once an Unwins, and Full of Beans was once a camera shop. Reeves have an extensive archive of photos in their collection, which you can browse through at 159 High Street where the business has been running for four generations since 1858. If you know anything more about any of the photos we publish, don’t hesitate to contact us.

The bottleneck was even more of a nightmare before the by-pass was built
