The latest picture supplied by Reeves shows the construction of what is surely Lewesians’ least favourite building, County Hall, back in 1967. The building was eagerly heralded by East Sussex County Council, who boasted on its completion about how it blended in with the rest of Lewes, and was designed to sit congruously next to St Anne’s Church. After great deliberation we have decided that the picture must have been taken from the church tower of St Michael’s: it includes Viva Lewes’ own roof in the foreground. Reeves have an extensive archive of photos in their collection, which you can browse through at 159 High Street where the business has been running for four generations since 1858. If you know anything more about any of the photos we publish, don’t hesitate to contact us.
