That’s your lot then, after a week in which a palette of intermittent rain and sunshine led to the loss of a thousand umbrellas, and painted the Downs a glorious shade of green. Also a week in which (not Sir) David Beckham finally won a major trophy on his last day at the office at Real Madrid, and the government outraged Islamofascists by awarding Kashmiri/British writer Salman Rushdie, author of The Satanic Verses and Tottenham fan, a knighthood.

We would like to thank the following people without whom this edition would have been a far sorrier specimen: Lesley Thomson, Pete Coppard, Lis Lawrence, Howard Davies, Keith Gilbert, Val Simanovitz, Tom Reeves and Norman Hopson.

This week’s contributors are: Emma Chaplin, Emma Robertson, Antonia Gabassi, Dexter Lee, Adrienne Campbell, David Jarman, Scott Chowen, Nick Williams, Rachel Littlejohn, Katie Moorman and Alex Leith.

Next week’s highlights include:
Saturday 30th: The fabulous Curst Sons, ex Daddy Yum Yum hillbilly swampthangs, at the All Saints
Saturday 30th: Tongue and Groove, in their only public performance of 2007, at the Pells Pool
Saturday 30th: For Cod’s hake at the Newhaven Fish Festival
Sunday 1st: Body of Work exhibition in the Market Lane Garage
