What’s your favourite pub? The Lewes Arms. I like establishments that look like they haven’t been ‘modernised’ in the last 95 years.
What’s your poison? A nice glass of wine, the odd half of Harveys and an occasional flutter at Plumpton Races
What did you have for breakfast? Some croissants from Waitrose, and a cup of Free Trade filter coffee.
What newspaper do you read? I read them all, but the two I always get are the Guardian and the Sun. A great combination which gives me both sides of the picture, from sensible shades of opinion on important matters to what’s going on in Big Brother.
How would you spend a perfect Sunday? Taking my dogs for a run on the beach at Newhaven; meeting up with friends for a game of tennis at Southdown; playing golf at the Mid Sussex club in Ditchling and having lunch at the Bull.
Recommend somewhere local to eat. Depends on my mood. Currently I’ve got a crush on Prezzos, but sometimes it’s fish and chips down in Cliffe. I used to love the Long Room. I’ll never understand why that place closed down.
What do you think about plans to redevelop the Phoenix industrial estate? It seems complete insanity to build on a flood plain, but if the design could take that into account in a cutting edge way I don’t see the problem. Lewes can’t remain in a cultural cocoon: change has to happen, but it has to be done with some degree of compassion.
Any current music you can recommend? I’m pleased about the re-emergence of Take That. I worked with them when they started and I think their latest single is one of the best songs I’ve heard for ages.
