Name: Victoria Thompson
Profession: I suppose I am what’s laughingly called retired now but I have worked as a professional academic and theatre director. I’ve also played one of Keith Allen’s many wives when we were at the Welsh College of Drama together! I became the club director for Lewes Little Theatre two years ago. There was a major rift in the club at the time and when I was elected it was felt I had the experience and skills to heal the problems. The director is elected every year and for the sake of continuity (and because I love it) I hope to remain in the post for two to three years more.
Are you local? It would be unfair to say yes because I wasn’t born here and I didn’t grow up here but my husband and I are both very committed to the place now. We moved from central London and briefly rented in Eastbourne. At the time I was still lecturing in London and I used to commute on the train back to Eastbourne. I always noticed that the most interesting looking people seemed to get off at Lewes so we thought we’ll move there. We did so 11 years ago.
What do you like about Lewes? I like the spirit of the place and its ancient influences. There’s a real spookiness about it that often comes out of old places. And I like the people. There’s a lot of light behind the eyes here.
What’s your favourite pub? I don’t drink much but when I do it tends to be in the Lewes Little Theatre club bar.
Waitrose or Tesco? Waitrose. But I also like a lot of the local shops. Especially the Greengrocers at St Anne's. And Bona Foodie.
Which newspaper do you read? The Independent.
What’s your favourite local landmark? I love the view from the top of School Hill. We’ve actually bought one of the new Baxter’s Site Town Houses, off plan, so I’ll be able to look at it every day.
