We’ve also got one away fixture scheduled, on the 31st of July, away at Dartford. If anyone is up for travelling, this will be a great occasion, as we’ll be playing in their new six-million pound stadium, a real state-of-the-art affair which was completed over the summer. Dartford are a well-supported team who have been ground-sharing for years because they lost their stadium, and have just been given a brand-new one from their local council.

They’ve just announced the Conference South fixtures - or the Blue Square South fixtures, as we’ve got to call them now - and our first game is at home to newly-merged Hayes and Yeading. They’ve taken the best players from both teams - mostly from Hayes, to be fair - so they’ll be tough opponents, playing on what will be a historic occasion. We’ll have, as ever, to earn the right to win that one.

We’re third favourites with most bookies, which I’m pleased about, because another team can cope with that pre-season favourites tag - which fires your opponents up even more to put one over you - this season. And we’ll be kicking off every game with the intention of winning it, I can promise you that. As ever we will play an attractive free, fast-flowing style of football. On our day we will be capable of completely destroying the opposition. I can’t wait to get started.

As we said on page 23, the caw of last year’s team…
