This week’s picture from Reeves was taken on the 4th of November 1960, and after that years flood and features the No 180 (Heathfield) bus, a double-decker Routemaster, stranded on Malling Road, outside the Wheatsheaf pub. Look closely to the right of the bus, and you can see two policemen on the roof of a truck, presumably engaging in some sort of rescue work. The next day’s Bonfire Night festivities were cancelled, the only time this has happened in living memory. Reeves have an extensive archive of photos in their collection, which you can browse through at 159 High Street where the business has been running for four generations since 1858. If you know anything more about any of the photos we publish, don’t hesitate to contact us.
