What sort of business do you think Lewes needs to attract? A riverside wine bar and restaurant would be nice. And bring back Lewes Television…
Would a redeveloped Phoenix area be good for the town? Conditionally yes, because a town that doesn’t develop, slowly dies, and a decent development must be better than letting the area run down. However, the mix between commercial and residential use must be carefully thought out, let alone the traffic and parking issues.
What do you think about the idea of pedestrianising the centre of Lewes? I’m all for it, but unfortunately the council seem to be once again looking at the town’s development in a piecemeal way. The traffic has to go somewhere, the one-way system is a nightmare, and the parking scheme is a joke. We must have a cohesive plan including a bus station, train link to Uckfield and better parking - particularly for shoppers and at the station.
Could you do anything to make your business greener? We shred and then recycle a great deal of paper, but I’m sure we could do better. Someone recently pointed out that if all businesses and shops turned off their window display lights at night it would save a fortune in energy.
Any expansion plans? Definitely.
Give a top tip to our readers: Houses are for living in. They shouldn’t be regarded solely as an investment.
Is there anything you always get asked? Q - Is there going to be a crash in the property market? A - The basic law of supply and demand suggests that Lewes won’t suffer a major crash. However, you should always budget to be able to deal with a short-term dip. NW
