What’s you favourite pub? I don’t really go to pubs much in Lewes, though I occasionally enjoy live music in the John Harvey Tavern. I like country pubs like the Cricketers in Berwick and the Rose Cottage in Alciston.
What’s your poison? G&T. Or a glass of white wine.
What did you have for breakfast? Muesli, proper ground coffee and an orange juice.
Waitrose or Tesco? I go to both: Tesco for the cheaper necessities and Waitrose for the finer things. But I also go to the little shops on Western Road, which provide a wonderful service.
Which newspaper do you read? The Guardian on Saturday, the Observer on Sunday and occasionally the Independent in the week. And the Sussex Express to see if they’ve used the stuff I’ve sent in.
What’s your favourite landmark? Going into town from any direction and seeing the castle still excites me. Lewes is so beautiful. You know after all these years here, I still feel like I’m on holiday.
How would you spend a perfect Sunday afternoon? Like I spent the last one: A trip to the beach hut we rent in Seaford, a walk over Seaford Head and back, and a bottle of wine at the end of it.
Recommend a restaurant. Prezzo’s may be a chain but they do good food, the service is good, and they have a lovely terrace. It used to be the Nat West, so I’ve negotiated a lot of overdrafts in that space. It’s a pity Bill’s isn’t open at night and that there aren’t any English or French restaurants in town.
What is Lewes lacking? I think All Saints does a great job, but it is not big enough. We need additional space for performance and concerts, to work alongside All Saints. It would be nice if the industrial buildings at the bottom of North Street could be restored and turned into a performing arts centre. Perhaps that could be our "Cultural Olympiad" project?
