Get More Active Day

I’ve spent most of 2007 talking about planning a fitness campaign. I’ve had a stab at running, cycling and swimming, and therefore by logical progression tried to convince myself that triathlon is the sport for me. The only trouble is I’m not that keen on cycling and my swimming needs a lot of work. To be honest, even my running’s a bit ropey. I need to focus - basically I need some help… and at the local leisure centre today I’m finally going to get some.

Around eighteen months ago, Wave Leisure took over the running of Lewes Leisure Centre. As a charitable Trust, all surplus cash is used to improve facilities, and in Lewes this has already resulted in a new gym, and sauna, which can be viewed on the day prior to their opening on September 1st. Wave are also committed to making exercise fun and accessible to all, and as part of this initiative, today has been declared ‘Get More Active’ day. From 9am until 6.30 there will be a variety of sports demonstrations and taster sessions taking place on their site. Sports on offer will include archery, badminton, tag rugby, roller hockey and Soo Bahk Do - a Korean martial art suitable for all ages. If you’re more in to aquatic activity, in the pool, as well as swimming there will be canoeing, snorkelling and dive instruction available. And if that’s not enough for you, in addition, there will also be bouncy castles, go-karts, food demonstrations and the chance to cycle your own smoothie. Now that sounds like my event. NW
