Bank Holiday Monday in Seaford

You know what it’s like on Bank Holidays.  The sun comes out; friends pop down for a surprise visit and suddenly everyone wants to go to the beach. So you cram in to the car, and after an hour or so spent queuing in endless traffic because everyone else and their visiting friends have had the same bloody idea, you eventually end up hot and bothered on the pebbles. However, even then your trauma’s not over because you soon find yourself queuing again - this time for an over-priced pint in a dodgy plastic glass or an equally overpriced semi frozen Cornetto. Well not this year.

This Bank Holiday we suggest that you let the train take the strain. Head to Lewes station, take a sixteen-minute journey in the opposite direction from Brighton, and you’re virtually be in the water at Seaford. Its beaches are usually much less populated and you also have the opportunity to stroll up on to the grassy banks above the chalk cliffs. There are also plenty of pubs and shops nearby. Today in fact there’s a heck of a lot of things going on -including the town’s annual Donkey Derby, a Classic Car Show and a Road Run. And even if none of those events appeal to you, you can always pop into the Crypt Gallery for an hour, where, as part of the district-wide Artwave festival, the Second Glances exhibition featuring Ann Johnston’s paintings and Pam Hughes poetry is on. Personally, I think you’ve got to give the donkeys a go. NW
