The area of high pressure which made the beginning of August such a sunny delight is likely to be replaced by a series of lows which, while not pulling the temperature down much lower than the seasonal average, will lead to changeable weather with persistent showers interspersed with sunny periods. A typical English August then.

Train News
Apparently there will be no delays, alterations or engineering works affecting the train services throughout August. Even the bank holiday Monday will just ‘run as a normal weekday service’ I’ve been told, but it’s probably worth checking the times on the day of your journey.

TV and Radio Highlights
Is, for many, undoubtedly the return of Match of the Day to our screens. Lineker, Hansen and Shearer, fresh from a long summer break, host highlights of all the action of the afternoon as the Premiership football circus returns to town.

This week’s guest is magazine publisher Felix Dennis, 65th on the Sunday Times Rich List 2004 with a fortune estimated at £585 million. He could probably afford to buy his own island then.
