What sort of businesses do you think Lewes needs to attract? How about a proper bakery serving ready baked and fresh bread?
Would a redeveloped Phoenix area be good for the town?
Lewes is always changing, and it has done so dramatically in the 23 years I’ve lived here. Many have been positive, but something on the grand scale proposed could be a potential disaster for the character of the town. What’s wrong with a little quirkiness?
Has the parking scheme affected your business? Yes, and not just the business, I feel that to some extent it’s affecting everyone’s life. I’m not a great car user, but it’s terrible for example when the wardens hang around outside the schools preying on parents collecting kids from school. It seems to have very little to do with safety, and a lot to do with raising revenue and asserting control.
Could you do anything to make your business greener? We make a point of not using plastic bags, and try to encourage our customers to re-use their existing bags. At a push we would use one of the many that arrives in packaging from our suppliers. I think this is the real area of concern, and that collectively we need to dissuade the over-use of packaging at this stage of the process.
Any expansion plans? We will continue to develop our range and are always looking for new ideas, but we have no plans to open any more shops. We will also shortly re-launch our website.
Give a top tip to our readers: Be creative, and never be afraid to try out new ideas or experiences.
