That’s your lot then, after a week in which we finally got the summer we were all waiting for, a sunny Bank Holiday period which saw Newhaven beach chockablock with bathers and the Pells, for once, packed. Is that what’s known as an Indian weekend? Also a week in which South African miners discovered what is thought to be the world’s largest diamond. And speculation over Fidel Castro’s death led to fevered speculation and champagne on ice among the many exiles in Miami who disagree with his system. False rumour? Or Chronicle of a Death Foretold?

We would like to thank the following people, without whom this issue would have been more of a pauper’s grave compared to the ceremonial state funeral it turned out to become: Tom Tyrwhitt, Paul Gregory, Michael Bowley, Tessa McCormick, Stanley Wood, Philip ‘Prince of Hellfire’ Rhodes, Ann Johnson, Richard Winter, Julian Warrender, Angie Osborne, Barbara Keal, Suzie Fox, Anne Penman Sweet, Adrian Orchard, Susie Monnington and Tom Reeves.
Issue 83’s contributors were: Emma Chaplin, Emma Robertson, Dexter Lee, Antonia Gabassi, Steve King, David Jarman, Catlin, Nick Williams, Katie Moorman and Alex Leith.

For the foreseeable future we will be putting Viva Lewes out fortnightly. Issue 84 will cover September 13th-26th. Highlights include: Friday 14th: Victorian sleight of hand with The Prestige at the All Saints.
