Go Wild in the Woods - Back to Your Roots
Between 11am and 4pm today, Sussex Wildlife Trust are holding their main family event of the year,. They tell us:
“All the family are sure of some tree-mendous forest fun at the Trust’s nature reserve at Woods Mill near Henfield, West Sussex.” On offer are opportunities to: “Learn essential tricks for surviving in the wild wood including creating string out of nettles, carving traditional mallets or making charcoal pencils. There’s also an opportunity to heat up your own hot drink in the woodland wilderness using a storm kettle – a traditional device for heating water fuelled only by a few twigs. As well as natural sculpture making and environmental games, the Trust’s annual fun day includes activities for all the family including arty crafts, face painting and weaving.”
We are also told that: “Go Wild in the Woods – Back To Your Roots, is a fun way to discover ancient forest skills and understand the importance of woodlands”.

They suggest that you bring a picnic lunch to enjoy in the nature reserve as the event runs from 11am-4pm. Drinks and light refreshments will be on sale throughout the day. There is disabled access around the nature reserve trail and disabled toilet facilities. Cost for members: adults £3.50, children £2.50, family ticket £10. Non-members: adults £5, children £3, family ticket £15. If you don’t know where it is, Woods Mill can be found 1.5 miles south of Henfield on the A2037.
